     "markdown": "In 621 AH Badr al-Din Lulu seized Mosul, strangled the son of his former master Mahmud ibn al-Qahir, and claimed that he had died {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 95}.\n\nLulu had been a mamluk of the rulers of Mosul from the Zangid house. He rose through service until he became the master of the household and then the effective ruler. When al-Malik al-Qahir Mas'ud died in 615 AH and his small son succeeded him, and then that son died at the end of the year, Lulu continued to manage the realm. In this year he seized the city, caused the death of the last of his masters' sons, and consolidated his rule. His rule lasted about forty years, until he formally took the sultanate in 631 AH, and the sermon was given in his name from the pulpits {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 95}."

     "markdown": "سنہ 621ھ میں بدر الدین لؤلؤ نے موصل پر قبضہ کر لیا، اپنے استاد کے بیٹے محمود بن القاہر کا گلا گھونٹ دیا اور یہ ظاہر کیا کہ وہ خود فوت ہو گیا۔ {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 95}\n\nلؤلؤ زنگی خاندان کے موصل کے حکمرانوں کا غلام تھا۔ وہ خدمت میں ترقی کرتے ہوئے گھر کا نگران بنا اور پھر عملی حاکم بن گیا۔ جب ملک القاہر مسعود سنہ 615ھ میں فوت ہوا اور اس کا کم سن بیٹا تخت پر بیٹھا، پھر وہ بھی سال کے آخر میں مر گیا، تو لؤلؤ سلطنت کا انتظام چلاتا رہا۔ اس سال اس نے شہر پر قبضہ کیا، اپنے آقاؤں کے آخری بیٹے کو ختم کیا اور اپنی حکومت مستحکم کر لی۔ اس کی حکومت تقریباً چالیس سال رہی، یہاں تک کہ سنہ 631ھ میں اس نے باقاعدہ سلطنت کا اعلان کیا اور منبروں پر اس کے لیے خطبہ دیا گیا۔"
