     "markdown": "Ibn Khaldun relates that the jurist Wajjaj ibn Zallu al-Lamti sent him from Sijilmasa with a delegation of Lamtuna returning from the pilgrimage, to teach them the Qur'an and establish the religion for them. They found his teaching hard and cast him off. He turned away from them and took to seclusion on an island in the Nile delta with Yahya ibn Umar al-Lamtuni and those who followed them, until they reached a thousand. {cite:tarikh-ibn-khaldun-ibar p.1645}\n\nHe told them that a thousand would not be defeated for lack of numbers, and that standing for the truth and calling to it was incumbent on them.
