     "markdown": "Al-Baladhuri says that [[person/abd-al-malik-ibn-salih|Abd al-Malik ibn Salih]] wrote to him asking for a ruling about the people of Cyprus. He and Makhlad ibn al-Husayn answered that they did not see anything more like the affair of Cyprus than the affair of Arabsus, and the judgement [[person/umar-ibn-al-khattab|Umar ibn al-Khattab]] gave there. {cite:futuh-buldan-maarif-1407 p. 214-215}\n\nIn that judgement the people of Arabsus were offered double their wealth to leave, or a year's respite after the breach; they refused, so they were given respite and then it was ruined. Al-Awza'i is quoted that Cyprus was made a peace for fourteen thousand dinars, seven for the Muslims and seven for the Byzantines, and that the Byzantines should not hide the affairs of the Muslims.
