     "markdown": "Commander of the Faithful al-Muʿtadid bi-Llah Abu al-Fath Dawud ibn al-Mutawakkil ʿala Llah, caliph of the Abbasids in Cairo. Al-Muʾayyad Shaykh appointed him to the caliphate in place of his brother al-Mustaʿin bi-Llah, when he deposed him. His caliphate lasted twenty-eight years and two months.
