He embraced Islam after seeing the steadfastness, courage and sincere readiness of the Muslims to meet the enemy at the battle of Mu'ta in 8 AH {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 445} {cite:zad-al-maad}. He sent a messenger to the Prophet announcing his Islam, and gave him a white mule {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 445}. When the Romans learned of his Islam, they seized and imprisoned him, then gave him the choice between apostasy and death. He chose death, so they crucified him in Palestine at a water called Afra' and beheaded him {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p. 446}."
