She set out from her town with her husband and a small son she was nursing, in a company of women from Banu Sa'd looking for infants to nurse. It was a year of drought that had left them nothing. She rode a weak she-ass, and they had a camel that gave not a drop of milk; they could not sleep at night for the crying of their child, who was hungry {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.55} {cite:ibn-hisham-sira 1/162-164}. When they reached Mecca the boy was offered to every woman, and each refused him once she heard he was an orphan, because they hoped for kindness from the boy's father. No woman was left without taking a nursling, except her {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.56} {cite:ibn-hisham-sira 1/162-164}. She disliked returning without a nursling among her companions, so she told her husband she would take that orphan. He said that perhaps God would make a blessing for them through him. Then they set out, and her she-ass outpaced the whole company, so that none of their donkeys could keep up, and her companions marvelled. They reached their dwellings in the land of Banu Sa'd, which is among the most barren of God's lands. Her flock came back full and milky while her people's flocks came back hungry, to the point that the herders told their shepherds to graze where the shepherd of Abu Dhu'ayb's daughter grazed {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.56} {cite:ibn-hisham-sira 1/162-164}.
