     "markdown": "Shaykh of shaykhs Burhan al-Din Ibrahim ibn Shihab al-Din Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Ma'arri al-Dimashqi, known as Ibn Awn al-Hanafi, the mufti of the Hanafis in Damascus. He was born in the year 836 {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 467}.\n\nHe studied with al-Shams al-Sa'di and al-Bakri and heard hadith from al-Sakhawi. He took on the dignified bearing of his teacher Ahmad ibn Qudus and some of his virtues, through his close discipleship and long companionship with him {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 467}.\n\nHe died in the year 916 and was buried in front of Bab al-Faradis, to the south {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 467}."
