     "markdown": "Ismail ibn Abdallah al-Salihi, a righteous shaykh who was lost in love of God. His brain dried out from much recitation of the Qur'an in the madrasa of Shaykh Abu Umar, and his reason left him. Some say he was enamoured and was made to be loved. In his ecstatic state he recited a great deal and spoke in fine phrases. People generally had great faith in him. He used to stay at the New Mosque and at the mosque of al-Afram in al-Salihiyya {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 420}.\n\nIbn Tulun said that he recited to him a verse about contentment: the man who is healthy in body and secure in his livelihood, and who gives up his greed, is rich, even if he dies of hunger. He died on the nineteenth of Ramadan in the year 901 {cite:shadharat-dhahab p. 420}."
