He set out to him with six thousand men from Kufa. This relates to the event of [[event/salman-armenia-reinforcement|the reinforcement of Salman ibn Rabi'a to Armenia]] {cite:futuh-buldan-maarif-1407 p.278}.\n\nAl-Mas'udi reports that when he entered Kufa as governor, he refused to ascend the pulpit until it had been washed, and said that al-Walid had been impure {cite:muruj-al-dhahab p.631}. In Sahih al-Bukhari he is one of the three Qurashis on Uthman's committee for copying the codices of the Qur'an, together with Zayd ibn Thabit {cite:sahih-al-bukhari}."
